Court grants petition to drop Nakamura as defendant

As it stands now, the civil suit filed by James Whitfield against GCISD and Tammy Nakamura is down one defendant. In a court order signed today (June 20, 2023),

“Plaintiff James Whitfield's claims against Defendant Tammy Nakamura are DISMISSED WITH PREJUDICE.”

The legal terminology “with prejudice” means that Whitfield cannot refile the same claims against Nakamura in another case.

While this is obviously great news for Nakamura, it doesn't mean the case against GCISD is officially over yet. There are multiple possible outcomes. From a layman’s perspective, it seems the most likely outcome will be a total loss for Whitfield, since his entire case appeared to be built on the comments made by Tammy Nakamura. With those claims dismissed, it appears Whitfield’s case has been gutted and is now an empty shell.
